Reflection: Working relationship

Establishing a professional, working relationship can be challenging with some people. Not all of the adult learners you work with will understand that you are there as a professional. They might see you just as a teenager. They might treat you more as a friend. Some may even want to try to spoil you or take care of you, which is a natural reaction from some adults.

What concerns do you have about working with adult learners? Your responses will only be shared with your teacher or team coordinator. Where you have concerns, determine whether any of the information in this section of the module is helpful. How might you implement the strategies in this module to help you establish and maintain a working relationship?

If you have any remaining questions, your teacher or team coordinator may want to talk about them with you privately. If your team coordinator finds several people with the same concerns, that may merit having a group discussion.

Using strategies like maintaining boundaries, keeping confidential information private, and honoring personal space will help you establish professional, working relationships. You should understand what you can do when questions arise.
