The Digital Ambassadors CourseDigital CitizenshipObjective 2: Protecting Yourself From Scams And Phishing

What is Phishing?

Phishing messages are intended to make you do something, like click on a link to visit a website. They may ask you to download something. The intent is to get you to give the cybercriminal access to your device, your account, or your PII. Most phishing messages are delivered through email, but they can also be sent through texts, other messaging services, and through phone calls.

Many phishing messages look authentic, especially emails that include branding. This can include corporate logos, colors, and signature elements. These messages appear to come from an organization you trust. These messages may include language that makes it sound like the sender knows who you. They may also imply some form of urgency for you to complete an action immediately. Phishing messages that target seniors may include emails that appear to be from Medicare, healthcare organizations, banks, or insurance companies.
