This unit covers a range of ways to secure IT infrastructure against threats and vulnerabilities, including the infrastructure’s devices, the data it contains, and the people who use it. Students will explore logical security measures, which include means to create, store, and transmit data in a secure fashion, along with physical security strategies for keeping physical assets secure. They will discover ways threats can be prevented or mitigated, whether they come in the form of malicious software attacks or the actions of others. Students will also learn ways to keep data secure and how systems might be recovered in the case of equipment failure or a natural disaster.
There are several concepts in each topic, but some of them are straightforward and easy to understand. Feel free to move forward to topics in subsequent weeks or spend more time in hands-on activities, if necessary.
