Checklist: Reflection on Your Communication Skills

Take a moment to reflect on how prepared you feel to demonstrate the following skills. They are skills related to strong verbal, nonverbal, and written communication.

To demonstrate being a strong communicator, I can:

• Organize and structure a conversation so it has purpose and includes:
  • an appropriate greeting,
  • interactions and demonstrations,
  • opportunities for questions, and
  • a closing with clear next steps;
• Incorporate active listening skills, including supportive body language and facial expressions;
• Paraphrase, summarize, ask good questions, and allow others to ask questions during a conversation using appropriate voice components; and
• Write an organized email with short, clear sentences and correct grammar.
