Manage Your Time
Time is a precious resource, especially as you get older. As people get older, they gain further obligations so time seems to become scarcer. Older adults, especially, truly value their time and want it to be spent wisely. Being timely is a key component of professionalism, especially when going into the community to help people with technology.
Being timely is more than just about being on time. You have to be on time and ready to work. Being on time actually means being early so you're prepared to start at the right time. That shows that you take your responsibilities seriously and that you’re considerate of others. It shows you are reliable.
Being late or missing appointments will frustrate others. You can be perceived as unreliable and disrespectful.
Tips to manage your time as a Digital Ambassador:
- Prepare everything you need in advance, like the day before. This will help you be ready to go when you get where you need to be.
- Plan ahead. Unexpected things can happen, like running into traffic or trouble finding a location. Always try to arrive a little earlier than your appointment, especially if it’s a place you’ve never been to before.
- If you are going to be late, be sure you know how to reach the person you are scheduled to work with. If you’re going to be more than 15 minutes late, you may need to reschedule.
- Communicate clearly about the time it might take to resolve issues that arise in your help sessions. Let people know if you can’t solve the problem during a session. This may happen if you need to do research or obtain some additional materials.
