Ending Your Session

As you end your session, be sure you share the best way your participants can contact you or the Digital Ambassadors. Many will want to know when you will be back for the next session. Include the best contact information on any flyers or handouts you leave with your participants.

Best practice is having an email or phone number for the Digital Ambassador program. Avoid sharing your personal email or phone number. Talk to your teacher about how the group will want to handle questions between sessions.

Remind participants to practice, practice, practice! Web-conferencing can become second nature if they do it often. If they participated in a web conference during your sessions and don't make another one for weeks, it can be like starting over again.

You can facilitate their practice by:

  • Giving them hands-on time to make practice conferencing and play with the web-conferencing app to just get comfortable. The more they practice, the more comfortable they will be.
  • Leave participants with a one-page guide or infographic to help them remember the process the next time they want to join or host a web conference. It should show step-by-step directions. Pictures help!

End your session by summarizing what was covered during the session. Ask if there are any questions or if there are things they'd like to revisit: "Is there anything you found challenging or would like to go over again?"

End on a positive note: "You all did a great job today. Remember, with any new skill, practice makes perfect. The more you use these tools, the more comfortable you'll become."

You can also address anxieties that may have surfaced during your session: "It's okay if you don't remember everything. We're here to help, and with time, it'll become second nature."

Let people know when you or other Digital Ambassadors will be back and what you will be covering. "Our next session is on [date]. We'll be covering [topics]. We hope to see you there!"

Always thank your participants at the end of a session: "Thank you for taking the time to join me/us today. We hope this session was helpful. Have a wonderful day/week and see you next time!"
